Privacy Policy

Perch ("we", "us", "our") is a passive home-monitoring app that helps caregivers stay informed about the daily routines of aging loved ones through smart home sensor data. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it.
1. What Data We Collect

| FCM tokens (device identifiers) | Delivering push notifications to the caregiver's device via Firebase Cloud Messaging. |
2. How Monitoring Works
Perch reads data from passive smart home sensors (e.g., motion sensors, door sensors) installed in the home of the person being monitored. Perch does not access, track, or collect data from the monitored person's phone, wearable, or any personal device. The monitored person does not need to install or use the Perch app.
3. Third-Party Services
- Firebase / Google — Authentication (email/password, Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In) and push notifications (FCM).
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — Secure storage and processing of sensor data and user accounts.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any other third parties.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account information and associated sensor data for as long as your account is active. Activity pattern data older than 90 days is automatically aggregated and the raw records are deleted.
5. Data Deletion
You can delete your account at any time from Settings > Delete account within the Perch app. When you delete your account:
- Your email, display name, and FCM tokens are permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.
- All associated activity pattern and anomaly data is permanently deleted.
- This action is irreversible.

6. Data Security
All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to production systems is restricted to authorized personnel only.
7. Children's Privacy
Perch is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
8. California Residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect and how it is used.
- Request deletion of your personal information.
- Opt out of the sale of personal information — we do not sell your data.

9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email. Continued use of Perch after changes constitutes acceptance.
